Laniwai - AKA Heaven on Earth

Date: March 14, 2020 at 4:25:44 PM CDT
Weather: 81°F Mostly Sunny
Location: Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa, Ko Olina, Hawaii, United States

After dropping the kids off at the kids club, I went to the room to change in to a swimsuit and cover up, then I headed to the spa.  I didn’t have time for the relaxation area before my treatment because I got there only a few minutes early. They recommend an hour early.

A nice lady walked me in and got me a cup of water. All the water choices were infused with flavor. Our favorite was pineapple coconut.   Then she has me close my eyes and pick a stone out of a basket. I got happiness. I was told to concentrate on this during my time at the spa. I released it in to a little pool while making a wish.

Then she took me to the locker room and told me to strip down and put on a robe and the slippers (flip flops) they provided me. The robe was luxurious. I sat down in the coed relaxation room and then someone came and got me.

She led me to my treatment room. Quentin had signed us up for a couple's massage, but I had read online about the rain water massage, so I changed to that.  This is the description of what I got...

Lilinoe (Fine Rain)
Customize the following services in the privacy of our rainwater suite.

Kilikili (Fine Gentle Rain)
Enjoy a full-body exfoliation of your choosing, followed by a lomilomi—a soothing Hawaiian massage applied under streaming jets of warm water, leaving you delightfully refreshed and reenergized. Finish with a Signature Body Butter designed to not only nourish the skin, but to leave it feeling smooth, hydrated and invigorated.

She had me smell a few scrubs and I went with plumeria. It smelled amazing.

The next 80 minutes were amazing. You know when you’re in a warm shower and it feels so good. Imagine that, but you’re laying down and someone is exfoliating your skin then massaging you all the while the warm water is pouring down. There was a stream of jets the whole time. Then she also had a sprayer with even warmer water that she would put on me from time to time.

She did my backside. Then my front. Just when I thought it was over, she massages my scalp. Seriously best treatment ever!

Afterwards they give you this amazing jelly thing. I can’t remember what it was, but it was like heaven in my mouth. I went in the ladies relaxation room and sat on a lounger that was heated and massaging built in. I wrote some trip report and waited for Q to get ahold of me.

Quentin finally convinced me to leave the massage chair and venture outside. As I did I heard a CM telling someone the outside area would be closing at 12:30. Whaaaat?

Our treatments were over $500 combined, not to mention the cost of putting the kids in the lunch and Moana thing so we could spend plenty of time at the spa. They told me we could come back for free another day. I was happy about that.  We still had a bit of time to enjoy the outdoor area, the official name is Kula Wai: Outdoor Hydrotherapy Garden.

We hung out in the hot tub. We could see our room from there. We are on the 6th floor overlooking the outdoor spa area.

Next to the hot tub was a cold tub. You were supposed to do 15 minutes hot then dip in the cold. I dipped a pinkey toe and noped right out of that.

We did the different outdoor showers. They are meant to simulate different waterfalls in Hawaii. We also walked along the reflexology path barefoot. It was interesting. There were two other small pools that were warm and lukewarm that we didn’t go in.

I told Q with 15 minutes left that we should go in and secure chairs because at 12:30 when this area closed it might be a madhouse. TGM thinking at all times.

We went in and were able to get some loungers in the coed relaxation room. They don’t have heaters or massage on them so they aren’t quite  as cool, but still comfy.

Q’s new spa friend, Jay, has been spoiling him. He brought us both out heated neck pillows and an assortment of teas.  There was also an assortment of fresh and dried fruit, muffins, and nuts that you could snack on in the relaxation room.

The models showed up for their photo shoot which is what closed the outside area.

Another CM came by with smoothie samples. They were banana cream pie and delicious. I asked where to get one and he said they are ordered from the spa. Count us in! I got the same flavor and Q ordered a PBJ. We added a multivitamin for Corona protection.

All together we spent about five hours in the spa and relaxation areas.  I decided we should probably spring the children from kiddie jail, I mean Aunties.

On the way out I got a pic of the stone pool where I put my wishing stone.

What an amazing place Laniwai is.  It was a blessing that they closed the outdoor area for the models.  On our way out, we scheduled a return visit for us to use the amenities without treatments.  Usually you aren't allowed in unless you have a treatment, so this was going to save us a bundle.  I knew we had to go back because we loved it so much and now we could go back for free!
