Makahiki – The Bounty of the Islands Breakfast Buffet

We had to get up bright and early today for our character breakfast at 6:45. Everyone said with the time change we would be up way early anyways so I made an early reservation. Turns out I had to wake up the kids. Aria was really struggling, so Antonio and I headed down and I told Q to get her shoes on and join us.

We got down and checked in and they told us to get in line to meet Mickey. I told them the rest of our party was running late so they had us wait in the seating area. Q called and put Aria on who was begging me to come back. I was wearing wedges and didn’t really want to tromp back up there, but I did. We all made it back down together and got our Mickey pic even though Aria wasn't really feeling it.

This first Mickey pic is the one I took.  See why I buy the photopass?  So worth it!

The buffet was plentiful. There was a sanitizer station by the front. We got our food, then resanitized our hands at the table before we ate.

How stinking cute are those banana dolphins? There was blueberries in the bucket. I had some delicious Hawaiian things along with regular breakfast foods. The pina colada yogurt was delish! As we ate, I was telling Quentin that we should come to this meal every day!  Then we got the bill and that crazy idea disappeared really quickly.  During the meal, a photopass person came by to sell us a package.  You could pick one of the pics they took with Mickey before the meal and it would come in a display folder.  I'm a sucker for pics, so I jumped right on that.  For a bit more, you could buy a code that would link all the pics they took before the meal to your photopass.  Yep, I bought that too.

The characters came by rather quickly after we got our food.

As soon as Q finished eating I had to send him away to sign the kids up for lunch at the kids club. He has made us spa appointment for 10 and I was nervous the club would be full for spring break. I had read horror stories online about not getting your kids in.  Antonio left shortly after Q because he felt sick. Could have been the 25 pieces of bacon he piled on his plate. Aria and I were the only ones there for the show. Auntie came out and sang and played the ukelele. Then the kids got to be in a parade with Goofy. They each got their own corona virus covered fish puppet. Aria did the parade, but after when they got to play music with coconuts she wasn’t interested.

I had told Q to go on over to the spa and start relaxing while I checked the kids in to the club. It didn’t open for check in till 9:30.  The kids and I played at the Open House till check in time.

After I checked them in I heard another person talk about Moana. When we were back in Wichita at the airport, Aulani had called and canceled our premium experience of Kakamora Chaos with Moana for later in the week, but apparently there was one last one today! I got the kids signed up then went to change to go to the spa. Between signing the kids up for lunch and Moana, they had several hours of fun ahead of them and we had several hours of free time!  In hindsight, I was super glad I signed them up for Moana because I later found out this was her last day at the resort.  They were removing her due to Corona virus and her being a face character.
